Immersive gaming in augmented reality for businesses
Augmented reality gaming has advanced over the years and has become a viable adoption for businesses in the entertainment industry. Entertainment outlets such as commercial children’s playground has adopted this technology and has transformed the business.
Most entertainment business faced similar problems such as the following:
Refresh Content
Over the course of the business, entertainment business offerings would lose its novelty and is in need of new content to keep things interesting to encourage repeat visitations from their customers. Such content also interferes with safety and the hassle to reconsider all safety aspects of the new setup making the content planning process even more daunting. Such upkeep is expensive which leads us to the second problem.
High Cost
To frequently setup new equipment, play objects or installations is costly. The large space of the area makes upgrading even more of a hassle. The down time of the entertainment outlet even by section would be detrimental to the brand of the business. Commercial entertainment outlets are never meant to be constantly spending money on adding to the environment as the goal of the business is to not only recuperate the investments and also make a profit in the process.
Engagements
Engagements are what makes the event memorable. A theme park would deploy people to be in costumes or setup booths for games while being vocal in their interactions. However, such setup is costly leaving most entertainment businesses stale and passive with lack of participation.
While most entertainment outlets or playground already have their groundwork set up, here is how augmented reality would play out in the setting of the business environment.
Indoor treasure hunt zoo
To overcome all the obstacles mentioned above, the business adopted augmented reality into their premise, and it added several layers of amazing offering towards their new and recurring customers.
The business is a children’s indoor playground that parents would pay an entry fee and allow their children to play around the large space. Putting new installments into the large space would deem costly and is not business wise.
The business decided to adopt AR and turned their playground into a mini zoo by adding animals in the scene. These animals are fully animated and can sense your presence as you walk near them for them to engage and interact with you.
To add a level of complexity to the scene, the children are tasked to go on a treasure hunt within the compound of the playground. A total of 10 golden bananas have been hidden all over the playground and the children went looking all over the place for it. Each time the game starts, the placing of the bananas are different hence it provided randomness and unpredictability.
Due to privacy concerns, we are unable to show you videos of the children playing the AR mini zoo. The children had a time of their life as they have never seen their favourite playground now filled with large animals.
The demo of the entire scene can be reviewed below.
Outdoor Nerf shooting game
By leveraging AR, in this demo we setup a public playground by laying out evil drones around the premise. We then attach the phone running the AR above a Nerf blaster gun. A Nerf is a toy rifle that shoots foam darts for children. This allows the player to roam around the playground with a feel of holding a rifle instead of holding just a phone.
Now that virtual enemies are seen overlaying in the real world, players will be given the task to eliminate all the enemies by aiming and shooting at the drones. All enemy drones have a life bar that the player can view.
When drones hit you, you get the blood effect as well.
Missions are given in the game. The player is to then roam around the premise for a search and destroy mission. Players are to seek out the power generators of the evil drone town and destroy them to disable the enemy boss.
We are even able to build in a reload system that forces the player to artificially reload the ammo within their virtual rifle through a full immersive action.
Thanks to AR, we are able to create full cinematic scenes in the scene where characters and adversaries are fully animated similar to a scene in a movie.
The cost of building this game is only a small portion of the cost of building a physical game. This shooter game can also be updated at any time for any festive season with new contents and missions. All these updates are instantly available to the player without the down time of setting up the premise.
Such games are easily recordable and shared online through social media platforms making the spread of word of mouth easier. Such gaming content is refreshing and exciting to watch as it grabs the attention of others online attracting more customers.
